Fabric Shelters – Redefining the Parameters.

The first tension membrane structure was actually an umbrella. A simple lightweight folding steel frame covered with a light rain resistant fabric.

The basic stretch membrane concept is that of a lightweight steel or wooden frame which when extended causing the fabric to become stretched, enhancing the strength of the article.

As the fabric of civilization changed from one of producing woven or skin fabrics using manual labour, to one where technology took over to substantially increase production capacity, there was also a shift in the mindset of fabric structures.

The umbrella developed into beach umbrellas, market marquees, changing rooms, and eventually a decorative enhancement to every outdoor restaurant and household patio.

These same principles are now utilized on fabric structures that house the worlds largest stadiums and pavilions.
