Mastery
.
There is a great deal to learn
about Internet
Marketing, which is a term that encompasses Web Design, Security
and Development, Data Base Development, Feeds, Content
Management, Automation, Intranet, Site Interactivity, Email
Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, Viral Marketing,
Relationship Marketing and Search Engine Optimization, etc |
 |
|
|
The truth is there is
too
much to learn, which is
why, those who are unreservedly described as
web designers or web
developers, are wise to specialize in one or two
areas.
As vast as the Internet may
seem, the World Wide Web is controlled by a "surprisingly
small", number of futuristic market leaders who recognized
the potential in the earlier days of the internets'
inception. Quietly and with much focus, these powers joined
hands and developed strategies to bring a very fragmented
concept into a workable marketing tool.
The web experienced a few
catastrophes along the way, like the massive "Dot Com"
failures and mass exodus of the early 90's.
SPAM which used to be a tinned
meat product was re-created as a word that referred to the
billions of marketing emails that pulverized
our email boxes. Then came the emergence of Internet Virus' and
Trojans (like the infamous
Melissa Virus) that literally
shut down the computers of some of the worlds largest
companies.
Internet Statistics
Despite all that, they
were able to harness this massive marketing resource, simply by
offering the essential free services that we now take for
granted e.g. Search Engines and Web Tools.
There were
only 40 Million users when we began in 1995; 202
Million in the first extract of this Program in 2000;
805 Million Users in 2003 update; and now it is
estimated that there are an extraordinary
1.03 Billion users
in
2006!
Australia has always been an active
participant in the development of the web and in some cases led the way.
Australian Engineers developed some of the first Search Engines that
were used globally and it was recently announced that Google will be
implementing a new Algorithm called Orion that has been created by an
Israeli Student at the NSW University! (Read

Changing Trends
.
If you can recall having to dial
into the individual search engines using the telephone, then
you've probably been involved in the internet as long as we
have.
.
A major part of the internet
marketers job is keeping up with the changing trends. |

We suggest being aware of the
following:
-
Those who say they are "Internet Experts"
they are not telling the truth! We are ALL
novices still! The trick is to be guided by the most
experienced novices!
-
Get rich fast schemes - don't get drawn into
the clever hype, pay out ... then lose out. Make
sure they provide proof of their claims, and if you
cannot trial a program or service free ... ignore
it.
-
Ecommerce Sites - they say it is a secure
site ... really? (Helloo-oh!
believing that anything is secure on the internet is
... a dangerous belief!). I apologize for
being an alarmist. It is true that ecommerce
programs are becoming much more sophisticated,
smarter and more secure, unfortunately the internet
is still the target of internet fraud from hackers,
phony emails and shopping portals.
-
Use Debit Cards where possible instead of
Credit Cards to maintain control of cash flow.
I have had to replace my Visa Card twice as a result
of petty thievery!
-
Do Not SPAM; i.e.
send unsolicited email to ANYBODY, and always have a
written indemnity at the end of your marketing
emails to assure the receiver that they have not
been SPAMMED. Always include information on how they
may "opt out" from future communications. (More
about all types of SPAM later in the program).

the concepts in more detail ... continue to
